Danfoss Orbitrol (Hydraulic Steering Unit)
The Danfoss orbitrol is a type of non-load bearing orbital steering unit used primarily in the steering systems of vehicles like forklifts, tractors, and off-road vehicles. It works on the principle of a gerotor or orbital valve.
Principle: It converts the steering wheel’s rotational motion into a flow of hydraulic fluid which then moves the steering cylinders.
Operation: As the steering wheel turns, it rotates the shaft connected to the orbitrol. Inside, the movement is transferred to a gerotor set or a spool valve which meters the hydraulic fluid based on the input torque from the steering wheel.
Result: The metered hydraulic fluid is then directed to the steering cylinder, which moves the wheels in the desired direction. The amount of fluid and the pressure correlates with the speed and force the driver applies to the steering wheel.
